Gracia en el Jardín Infantil...!

Reflection…28th April 2010

De Gracia

The children have seemed to really like the plan and all of the new implemented experiences. Children have been meeting this month’s objective to further extend and practice their gross motor skills.

A lot of children have been rather mobile and have been seen getting around the room more by crawling, or sliding their bodies across the floor. Children have also been seen standing a lot more now when holding onto furniture and have also took it one step further by taking steps to move about! The ball spiral in room has been a great aid in helping children to stand as well as challenge other children that have started to climb over the steps. It’s like they are climbing up a huge mountain but still need a little help when coming down. It is at this point that we are teaching the children to turn their bodies around and go feet first rather than face first to minimise injury.

Having sand in the room has given lots of children the opportunity to feel, touch and taste. Using all of their senses to explore this new experience in room. It has also helped in calming the children down at times as it is something different that they can play with as well as been seen as a soothing sensation as they sweep the sand between their fingers.

The transport experience has also been very popular with the children. The added height to this area has also helped with more children practicing their standing when playing. A lot more children have also worked out to push along the cars and trucks in a back and forth motion. (Some just a forth motion that make the vehicles travel across the room!)

“Children are having a ball” with the ball experience! Children seem amused when the balls travel down the spiral platform very fast and often it’s a little difficult to catch a ball when its spinning so they wait to they stop to pick one up, mouth it a bit and place it back on one of the steps for the ball to go off again. A lot of smiles and giggles come out of this experience and its very fun to watch! J

Assortments of baskets in the room have given the children a chance to sort through toys as they play, giving them the choice and independence of what to play with. Lots of those toys produce a different sound once the children have learnt to shake or sway them from side to side. A simple cognitive skill they practice everyday… without even thinking about it!

Lots more children are very capable now at holding their own bottles at feeding times. This is something we are very pleased to see as with lots of practice we have seen the progression of independence!

Lots more children are also at the stage of trying and eating more foods throughout the day. More children have also graduated from puree food to eating off the normal menu that promotes a lot of self feeding with finger foods.

Some children have also graduated from sitting in a highchair to sitting in a chair at the table! They all seem so grown up and are changing at a rapid pace!

Just to let everyone know that Music Kylie will now be conducting her music and movement sessions fortnightly. She did not come on Tuesday so will be back next week. Until she is fit again to work weekly we will see her once a fortnight.

With that being said Sue and I try our best to sing to the children on a regular basis. Our favourite songs at the moment are:

-Twinkle Twinke

- Rum Sum Sum

- Incy Wincy Spider

- Ba Ba Black Sheep

- Row Row Row your boat

Children seem to enjoy the songs and stop to have a little listen and look at the actions. Some children have also learnt how to clap and so clap after or throughout the song!

Hoy llegó Cristián de un viaje laaargo. Caminamos por toda la ciudad y recorrimos el botánico. Quedamos muy cansados y sol preparó una comida espectacular. El martes partimos a Sydney!
